Private fee-paying appointments typically available within days. No long waitlist for most presentations.
Progress updates and reports provided to referring practitioners on request, with client consent. GP letters sent after the first session.
Melbourne CBD, Mooroolbark, Wheelers Hill and Reservoir — plus Australia-wide Telehealth.
Our diverse team supports clients from a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
We support a broad range of client presentations and funding types, making us a versatile referral option for most of your patients.
A straightforward process designed to minimise time and paperwork for busy practitioners.
You can refer your patient in one of two ways:
Address your referral letter or MHCP to The Talk Shop if you’d like your patient seen at one of our clinics — it helps our intake team route them quickly and ensures correspondence comes back to you. Open referrals (e.g. “Dear Psychologist”) are also valid for Medicare and we’ll happily action them. Please include:
Email to reception@thetalkshop.com.au or ask your patient to bring it to their first session.
An online referral form will be available shortly via our referrer portal. Coming soon.
Once we receive your referral, our intake team will contact your patient directly to match them with the most suitable psychologist and confirm their first appointment. You do not need to follow up — we will reach out to your patient promptly after receiving the referral.
Your patient attends sessions with their matched psychologist. After the first session, their psychologist will send a brief update letter to the referring practitioner (with client consent). Progress reports and discharge summaries are available on request throughout treatment.
A note on addressing the referral: Medicare accepts both named referrals (addressed to The Talk Shop) and open referrals (e.g. “Dear Psychologist”). We do prefer a named referral where possible — it lets our intake team route your patient to the right clinician faster and ensures update letters come back to you. Either is valid for Medicare billing.
The Talk Shop employs Registered, Provisional and Clinical Psychologists, including those with specialist endorsements. Our team holds expertise across a wide range of evidence-based modalities.
