Use your private health insurance extras cover to help offset the cost of psychology sessions. You pay at the time of your appointment and we provide a detailed invoice for you to submit to your health fund for reimbursement.
Most private health insurance policies with extras cover include a mental health or psychology benefit. Here is the straightforward process for using your extras at The Talk Shop.
Call your health fund or log in to your member app to confirm you have psychology or mental health extras cover, your benefit amount per session, and your annual limit and remaining balance.
Contact us to book an appointment at your preferred Talk Shop location or via Telehealth. No GP referral is required to use private health insurance extras.
Payment of the full session fee is required at the time of your appointment. We accept EFTPOS, credit card, and bank transfer. You will receive a receipt immediately after payment.
Ask our reception team for a detailed tax invoice. This includes all information your health fund needs: provider details, item numbers, date of service, and amount paid.
Submit the invoice to your health fund via their app, website, or in-branch. Your fund will reimburse the applicable benefit directly to your nominated bank account.
Many health funds allow instant claims via their app — photograph your invoice and submit. Reimbursement is often processed within 24–48 hours.
Our psychologists are registered providers. Clients with extras cover through any Australian health fund can claim a psychology benefit. Always verify your entitlements directly with your fund.
Don’t see your fund? You can still claim — contact your health fund to confirm your psychology extras benefit.
No. Private health insurance extras cover does not require a GP referral or Mental Health Treatment Plan. You can book directly with us.
This varies by fund and policy. Most extras policies provide between $50 and $120 per psychology session, up to an annual limit. Call your fund before your first session to confirm your exact benefit.
No. Australian law prohibits double-dipping — you cannot claim Medicare rebates and private health extras for the same session.
Ask our reception team after your session, or email reception@thetalkshop.com.au. We provide a tax invoice with provider registration numbers, item codes, date of service, and amount paid.
Most health funds process claims within 24–72 hours via app or website. In-branch claims may take 3–5 business days. Reimbursement is paid to your nominated bank account.
Yes — most health funds accept claims for Telehealth sessions the same as in-person. Confirm Telehealth is covered under your specific policy.
Once your annual benefit is exhausted, you pay the full session fee until your policy renews. Self-funded options are also available — see our Pricing page.
Book your psychology appointment today. We’ll provide your invoice after the session so you can claim your private health extras directly with your fund.
