WorkCover Psychology Queensland
WorkCover Queensland may fund early mental health treatment while a mental injury claim is being assessed. Psychology billing still needs to be confirmed against your claim, referral and approval details. No waitlist.
Direct Billing for Approved Claims
For eligible approved sessions, we bill your insurer or scheme directly at approved rates.
Psychology Under WorkCover Queensland
WorkCover Queensland is the state’s statutory workers compensation insurer covering most Queensland employers. If you have experienced a psychological injury at work — or a physical injury that has affected your mental health — WorkCover Queensland may fund your psychology sessions where your claim and treatment are approved.
The Talk Shop provides WorkCover-funded psychology via telehealth to workers across Queensland. We are AHPRA-registered and bill your insurer directly.
Early Mental Health Treatment While a Claim Is Assessed
WorkSafe Queensland states that workers with a mental injury may be able to access early mental health treatment while a claim is being assessed. Approval and billing should still be checked against your claim before your first appointment.
No waiting for a decision
- Early support may include sessions with a psychologist, counsellor, psychiatrist or GP
- For psychology billing, confirm your claim details, referral and any insurer requirements before treatment begins
- If your claim is accepted, further sessions are authorised based on clinical need and treatment planning
- Ongoing sessions depend on clinical need, claim status and insurer approval
Eligibility for a Psychological Injury Claim
To claim for a psychological injury under WorkCover Queensland you need to show:
- You are a worker covered under the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 (QLD)
- You have sustained a recognised psychiatric condition — not just work-related stress
- Employment was a significant contributing factor to your injury
- Your injury is not excluded by the reasonable management action provisions
Reasonable management action exclusion
If your psychological injury was caused wholly or predominantly by a reasonable employer action — such as a performance review, disciplinary process, demotion, or dismissal — carried out in a reasonable manner, your claim may not be accepted. The employer must demonstrate both that the action was reasonable in nature and that it was carried out in a reasonable manner.
