Shivanand Sivanesan

Provisional Psychologist in Mooroolbark

Hi, I’m Shivanand – though most people call me Shiva. I’m a Provisional Psychologist based at our Mooroolbark clinic. I am currently undertaking a Master of Professional Psychology course from Monash University and hold a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy qualification from the University of Adelaide. My approach is informed by both my counselling experience and psychological training, allowing me to provide holistic and client-centred care that is evidence-based.

With my counselling qualification, I have worked as a school counsellor, supporting children and adolescents experiencing trauma, depression, and anxiety. I have also worked briefly with adults who are neurodivergent. I welcome people across all age groups and have a growing interest in supporting those experiencing social anxiety, depression, and the effects of trauma.

My practices include modalities like Play therapy (especially with younger clients), Trauma-informed practices, Narrative therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Originally from Malaysia, I value providing care that is culturally sensitive. As an international student myself, I have some understanding of the challenges of navigating life in a new country and also enjoy supporting international students.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the most significant part of the healing process, as I seek to create a safe space that is collaborative and non-judgmental, where you feel heard and seen. It is a privilege to listen to your story, and I believe that each person has their own unique strengths, even during times of struggle. I strive to walk alongside my clients, supporting them as they navigate life’s challenges.
