Dr. Katherine Honeyman has extensive experience working within both community mental health and forensic/correctional settings. Kat has an empathic, compassionate, and non-judgemental approach, where she believes that much progress in therapy is underpinned by building a strong therapeutic relationship. Kat’s therapy sessions are guided by these principles, allowing clients to explore their vulnerabilities in a safe environment and feel heard.
Kat specialises in dual diagnosis, the condition in which one has a mental illness alongside a substance abuse problem. By specialising in dual diagnosis, a client is able to be treated for two or more disorders at the one location, with the one psychologist.

Utilising a holistic approach, Kat draws from a combination of evidence-based psychological approaches. Such approaches include, but are not limited to, Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive behavioural Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp), Solution Focused Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing and Supportive Counselling. Kat also has extensive experience facilitating group programs.
Kat is able to prepare support letters and reports for Court or University situations.
Kat considers therapy to be a collaborative journey made between the client and the therapist. She brings into session a strengths approach, focusing not only on what is problematic in the client’s life, but also drawing on what is healthy and strengthening these components. Having worked with a diverse range of clients, many often disadvantaged individuals, Kat strives to have client’s view themselves as a person (not a disorder). Through therapy, Kat hopes that self-belief is developed, alongside the idea that we are human, not perfect.
